He was born in 1935 in Puntarenas, Costa Rica. For several years of his life he worked as a professional economist and did considerable research in the field of economics.

His education as a self taught artist included visits to Mexico, Peru, India, Italy, Greece, Argentina, Germany, Central Asia, China, Egypt, the Middle East, Africa, Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands, Easter Island, and Romania (where he wished to study the monumental works of Brancusi, his most important source of inspiration).

Beginning in 1982 he devoted himself totally to sculpture. He has held numerous one-man shows since 1975 when he had his debut. In 1975 his works were exhibited in Jerusalem. He was invited to exhibit them at the “Maison de l´Amerique Latine” in Paris in 1989, and he exhibited a monumental work in Washington, D.C., in 1990. In 1991 he was invited to create a piece of similar characteristics in Kirgizia, Central Asia.

Since 1992 he has been travelling regularly to Carrara, Italy, to work directly on marble at the Nicoli studio, and during 1995 he exhibited his works at West Palm Beach, Brussels, and Ontario. In 2001 he held an exhibit in Chicago and in Lahr, Germany, and that same year several of his works which were donated to the institution were shown permanently at the gardens of INBIO park.
